[Twelve Crafts of Christmas] DIY Mason Jar Snow Globes

DIY Snow Globes

Here’s a quick and fun project to add a little sparkle to your Tuesday! Have you seen Anthropologie’s mason jar snow globes? They’re easy to DIY and super cute!

DIY Snow Globe Supplies

You will need:

  • a jar (pickle jars are perfect!)
  • miniature trees from the craft store
  • glitter
  • “thread seal tape” (not pictured)

DIY Snow Globe How To

Use hot glue to affix your trees or other miniatures to the inside of your jar’s lid. Be careful not to get glue on the threads of your lid.

DIY Snow Globe How To

Here’s the secret to making your snow globe leak-proof – thread seal tape! Also know as pipe thread tape or plumber’s tape, this helps fill in any gaps between your jar and its lid. You can pick it up for a few dollars at any home improvement store or hardware store.

After your jar is ready, shake in your glitter! I used white, silver, and a touch of gold. Then fill up your jar with water and carefully screw on your lid.

Now your snow globe is ready to admire! I tied a festive ribbon around the lid of mine, but you can leave it plain if you like.

The bigger your glitter “snowflakes” are, the longer they will hover in the water.

You can also add small figures to help bring your scene to life!

This is the best snowglobe tutorial I’ve seen….most don’t even include water! Um, that’s not a “snowglobe.” Also, thanks for the info about the tape – had no clue!

THIS IS SO COOL. I am totally making some of these! 🙂
