Last weekend, Marcus and I joined our neighbors on the shores of the Venice canals for the Annual Venice Beach Holiday Boat Parade! Dozens of locals took to the waters in themed boats to entertain the masses.
A traditional Venice gondola – when the canals were first built, there were many gondolas available to take people from place to place! Now there are mostly kayaks and paddle boats.
This boat had an entire band on board! Many of the boats had music of some kind.
It’s hard to see, but between this woman’s legs, there is a tiny baby in a carrier! You have to be pretty brave to kayak with a dog AND a baby.
I loved all the trees on these women’s boat on the left. The parade continues after dark so many of the boats were lit up with holiday lights. And you’ve got to love this Snoopy boat!
UFO boat! They also had a fog machine and lots of lights!
The SS Manilow was just a few surfboards strapped together. Seemed to float pretty well though!
Not all of the boats fared so well, however. This candy cane boat went down not long after the parade began!
This was definitely our favorite boat! Not only because it represented Marcus’ faith, but because it was awesome! The giant dreidel on the front spun around, all of the candles were “lit” with flickering bulbs, and he had a radio playing “Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel”!
What local traditions do you take part in during the holiday season?
